  • June 1st: The First Monday in May (Screening)

The First Monday in May chronicles a year's worth of preparations for the Costume Institute’s Chinese-inspired fashion exhibit China: Through the Looking Glass and the gala which accompanied the exhibit. Andrew Bolton, the Chief Curator at the Costume Institute, conceptualizes and designs the Metropolitan Museum of Art Gala with Anna Wintour, Editor-In-Chief of American Vogue. The Met Gala, the Costume Institute's annual event, is a multi-million dollar fundraiser and joint event organized by Vogue and the MET. The film also depicts Wintour's daily life and questions fashion as art. As of 2016, China: Through the Looking Glass is the most visited exhibit in the Costume Institute's history and one of the most visited exhibitions in the entire history of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
  • June 8th: 50 Years of Fashion Gallery Talk
Join us for a Gallery talk in the  Ellman Fashion Design Gallery to explore Defining Moments: 50 Years of Fashion at Phoenix Art Museum. Featuring more than 50 works drawn from across the history of fashion, this exhibition highlights masterworks and milestones of the permanent collection. Providing insight into how the treasures of the collection were acquired and formed an internationally respected fashion archive, this exhibition will feature a roster of world-class designers including Alexander McQueen, Yves Saint Laurent, Balenciaga and Chanel alongside stunning historical works.

In anticipation of Phoenix Art Museum’s fall fashion exhibition featuring the Emphatics Archive, curator of fashion design, Dennita Sewell will host a summer salon series about the history of Paris fashion. From the traditions of the grand couturiers to the evolution of the international fashion brand, this series explores the designers who made Paris the the most powerful and prestigious fashion capital in the world. Examination of works from the fashion design collection will conclude each lecture.
