INTERVIEW WITH SENTROCK:

Why did you want to do a collaboration with Bunky?

I wanted to work with Bunky because they are freakin' dope! Really a staple to downtown Phoenix's local owned stores and fashion.  When I first started making trips to downtown, Bunky was one of the only shops around that had artists involved and gave me an opportunity to show work at their very first location. Since then, we have been building a relationship and just being friends first and would talk business later. I would often shop at the store & they own a few original paintings of mine. this relationship comes from a mutual respect for each others taste in art & fashion. For us to come together and present this project is extremely exciting and a long time coming.

What does the BIRD CITY design represent to you?

My design is everything I feel my hometown Phoenix is about. If I were to break down the symbolism of the design, it's an original Phoenix inspired work. For those that may not be in the know, BIRD CITY is a nick name we gave Phoenix. The city of birds, the Phoenix bird. The phrase "Bird City State of Mind" is a play of words on rapper NAS' work. A Bird City State of Mind, is all about progression & going higher. The character is kid looking upward with a bird mask. The bird mask is to show a desire to fly, to reach for the sky. It captures a youthfulness and ambitious characteristic.

Interview with Jim Malloy from Bunky

Why did you want to do a collaboration with Sent?

Sent's work is representative of the people of Phoenix and Bunky represents Phoenix fashion, so it's a perfect marriage.  The feelings of strength and individuality in BIRD CITY create a connection and resound with anyone, especially Phoenicians.

We have known Sentrock for years.  He was one of our very first customers and he's worn a Bunky shirt to quite a few of his art show openings!  He's been a Bunky supporter since the beginning and our relationship has grown over the years from customer to friend to collaborator!

Sent is maybe the most important young painter from Phoenix currently working and his move to Chicago has only made him a more well-rounded and expressive artist.  Working with him on this collection is an honor.

Tell us about what Sent's art means to you?

Since I first saw his work in 2006 Sent's art has always resonated with me. His themes of hope and embracing the struggle of day to day life have always been very moving, and personally inspirational.
